Recent Paintings Responding to the State of Affairs
2016 has been a year marked by extremes socially, politically, and climatologically. I had the opportunity to exhibit my work in Prishtina, Kosovo and to work with refugees in Northern Greece this past spring. The paintings in this series were all completed after my return in May and respond in form and color to my experiences there and to the challenges both personal and political we are facing today.

DIALECTIC: New Work at the Oxbow Gallery February 2012
In this series, richly layered and playful abstractions give form to the Hegelian dialectic. Thesis, antithesis, and synthesis are realized when abstract and contradictory forms repeat, overlap, and morph into other forms. In a process that is often repeated, Conlon paints and then sands the paint in order to burnish and reveal earlier painted layers and then paints a fresh layer. The painting is complete when various painted layers reach an accord or synthesis.
